Robert Kurzban
Founder & CEO
Rob received his BA from Cornell University, his PhD from the University of California Santa Barbara and, most recently, his Masters of Public Administration at the Fels Institute of Government in 2018. He has 25 years of experience as a scholar, with expertise in the social and natural sciences, including, economics, political science, anthropology, and biology. During a successful career at an Ivy League institution, he published multiple books (with Princeton University Press). He has written hundreds of blog entries and published scores of peer-reviewed papers in top journals such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. His work has been cited over 16,000 times according to Google Scholar, and his ideas been covered by outlets such as The Economist and The New York Times. His writing has appeared in places such as The Washington Post and Vox. He specializes in academic writing, grant writing, and scientific writing designed to reach lay audiences.
Elena Svitavsky
Founder & President
Elena has been a communications professional for over two decades. She started her career at Morgan Stanley, working alongside investment professionals and senior management to craft superior investment and marketing content. In addition, Elena has partnered with non-profit and educational organizations as a freelance writer to help craft powerful proposals and marketing copy. She is experienced in writing and editing a broad range of materials including investment commentary, thought leadership pieces, client and marketing presentations, RFPs, style guides, press releases, marketing collateral, newsletters, blog posts, and grant proposals. Elena has created content for organizations including Morgan Stanley, BlackRock, American Century Investments, Franklin Templeton, T. Rowe Price, Stanford Graduate School of Business, Second Wind Fund, Inc., and interACT Theatre Productions. Elena is a proud graduate of Cornell University (BA) and New York University (MBA).
Our Rewrite
RE Writers was founded by Robert Kurzban and Elena Svitavsky in 2019. The name carries a triple meaning. First, the R and the E stand for the founders’ first names. Second, the name says what we do: we rewrite. And by “rewrite,” we mean that we draft, edit, revise, and polish documents that fulfill and exceed our clients’ needs. Third, the way we’ve rendered the logo, with the capital RE followed by a colon, captures what we are all about: writing.
The company came about as part of professional changes for both founders. Elena had a very successful career in financial services, while Rob enjoyed success as a scientist and scholar. The two found themselves at a New York City diner discussing their next moves, and, on the spot, decided that their next move should be to join entrepreneurial forces. So, the two friends, with a history dating all the way back to their time in college, decided to start a company that leveraged their deep knowledge and expertise in their respective areas along with their shared love of language.
And so RE Writers was born.
